The options out there are growing every day (which is a great thing, it means the industry is changing!) – but all those options can get overwhelming. So under each one I’ve listed my top picks to help make the switch even simpler.

1. CLEANER LIPSTICK + LIP GLOSS
Let’s start with lips – lipstick, gloss, stains, tints, balms. We eat, drink, and sleep wearing lip products for hours at a time. And wear one or more of these every day. Meaning there’s a higher amount of exposure since it sits on the skin for a long time + is on our mouths. So this is a super impactful place to start.
2. SAFER MASCARA
Like lip products, eye products are on a very delicate area of our face. Mascara is an easy swap to reduce your eyes’ exposure to harmful ingredients. Full disclosure: when I was switching to safer beauty, this was the one swap I was dreading. Mascara is THE desert-island product in my make-up bag. It took me years but I found these high-performing favorites that made giving up the conventional ones easy.

4. NATURAL DEODORANT
Chances are good this swap has been on your mind for a while. So consider this your loving push to make the leap. Switch from chemical-heavy anti-perspirants over to non-toxic formulas free of aluminum + parabens + artificial fragrances. Your armpits + lymph nodes will thank you. Tips for Making Healthy Swaps Without Obsessing
Progress > Perfection
Don’t worry about making all these swaps overnight.
Just pick out one or two that excite you the most & focus on making those swaps first. Then pick your next “what matters most to me?” swap from the list until you’ve mastered all five.
Try not to go all Marie Kondo on yourself.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore her. And her show. But this list is not asking you to Kon-Mari every drawer in your bathroom. You don’t have to throw out all your make-up. Or let your already-paid-for products go to waste. Use up whatever you’ve got and replace it with a better option once you run out. No guilt necessary.
Swaps ≠ Rules
These swaps are just simple ways to up-level what you do / use most of the time. Not to limit and restrict the things you do sometimes.
That other small percentage of things you do every now and then? Let. It. Be. It’s not gonna be what actually moves the needle.
So if that spa you love uses conventional products during your facial? No big deal.
